Desert Island Discs/Ultimate Mixed Tape

The lovely Mel over at Le Coin De Mel kindly tagged me for this Desert Island Discs meme – you can read her own post here. Essentially you need to compile a mixed tape of your fave tunes, and choose them well because it might be the only music you’ll hear for a very long time 😉 Here we go…

Muse – Feeling Good
This does not need an introduction. Most people reserve it for the end of a compilation but I think it’s more appropriate to kick things off on mine. Even on a really crappy day, it will put a smile on my face.

Beth Orton – Stolen Car
Beth’s albums Central Reservation and Pass In Time saw me through some very bleak days. This particular song speaks to me on many levels. Read this for a bit of background.

Paloma Faith – Stone Cold Sober
The lyrics in this pretty much sum up when I was coming to my senses and realising there was more to life than partying…

The Libertines – Horror Show
…although not quite ready to give it up, a horror show is what it was at points.

The Arctic Monkeys – I Bet You Look Good On The Dance Floor
I think everyone thinks they look good on the dance floor – I’m not entirely sure they do though! The Arctics are fab, I’m so pleased they’ve had their success, they really deserve it.

Barry Louis Polisar – All I Want Is You
An unconventional wedding song, this is what was playing as hubby and I walked out of the registry office after getting married. It was also playing in the background when he proposed.

Coldplay – Don’t Panic
In my opinion the mighty Coldplay will never top the utter awesomeness of their first album Parachutes. I still love listening to it every now and then over a decade after it was constantly in my CD player. Staying calm and not panicking is good advice to anyone surely? We do live in a beautiful world!

The Beatles – Strawberry Fields Forever
I was tempted to end my playlist with All You Need Is Love, but went with my favourite Beatles track instead. Who can resist Britain’s original boy band? Reminds me a lot of my travelling days.

  1. Some brilliant tunes there! Muse and the Arctic Monkeys would have been there on my top 12! As for your Beatles’ choice, I really hesitated between that one and ‘Hey Jude’… Great minds think alike! Thanks for taking part (oh so quickly, too!). x Mel
