The Dream: 10-1 Writing Exercise

I thought I’d try my hand at the 10-1 writing exercise. This entails writing a tiny piece of flash fiction (micro fiction?) comprising of ten sentences. The first has ten words, the second nine, etc etc and the last has just one word. So here you go…

The Dream

She wakes up from a nightmare, shivering, cold and drenched.
Frightened, scared, paranoid, afraid to go back to sleep.
Searching the room, seeing shapes in the shadows.
She hears noises, the wind blows wildly.
Rain lashes the drafty sash windows.
Foxes fuck emanating painful sounds.
Her heart beats fast.
She lies still.
Eyes close.
Darkness.
