My Travel Monkey is all about sharing my adventures – at home and abroad. It’s about inspiring people to travel by offering tips and ideas on how to enjoy exploring with or without children.

I’ve always had a passion for travelling and even though the parameters have shifted, I truly believe that having my son hasn’t stopped me from wanting to get out there and see the world. In fact, I now what to open his eyes to new experiences, which in itself is a huge life lesson – one that cannot be taught in the classroom. So, hopefully, one day, he will share the same passion and go off on his own journey across the globe.

Tell us three goals you’d like to tick off your bucket list before your next big birthday

My next big birthday will be a milestone – 40! But I’m glad that this is still four years away, which gives me plenty of time to get cracking on my three goals.

1) To have another child 🙂 It’s dawning on me more and more, that Monkey needs a sibling… I’ve ummed and ahhed about it but I think we’ve made the decision that we do want to add to our little family sooner, rather than later.

2) To take Monkey to Lapland to meet Santa Claus. It’s the ultimate dream trip and one that will cost enormous amounts of money – so therefore it will be a tough ask this one…

3) To get back on the property ladder. Due to lots of different reasons, we had to sell our London flat a few years ago and use the money we made on it for other things. So our savings pot is pretty slim. However, we’re getting there – it’s just perseverance and hard work, although seeing the house prices in our area gives me heart palpitations!

What is your ultimate three course meal?

That’s a tough one. I love my food… seriously. I am such a greedy guts at heart. It does amaze me how I’m not bigger than a house – I eat more food than my husband. I hasten to add, I actually probably have about five different versions of an ultimate meal over different continents but here goes:

Moules marinière with lashings of french bread, rare steak and thick cut chips accompanied by fried mushrooms and a rocket salad with pepper sauce, and a boozy tiramisu. Of course, washed down with lots of crisp white wine. Muscadet is my favourite tipple at the moment.

Who was your first crush?

I grew up in the 80s and I remember when Bros came out I loved them – I had posters all over my wall. Also New Kids on the Block. A toss up between the two – but I think the Goss brothers won out! However, i’d like to add that I was also obsessed with Madonna. Obsessed. So she actually might be my first and only girl crush.

Tell us about your three favourite posts

Why Travelling is Great For You and The Kids: Because I am so passionate about travel, I really think this post sums it all up. It wrote it after getting annoyed about the fines that were introduced to parents who take their kids out of term time to go on holiday.

48 Hours in Bucharest: This was trip was a birthday surprise for my friend. It was the best weekend ever. My jaw hurt from laughing so much but what really surprised me, was how much I fell in love with the Romanian city – and how its turbulant history moved me.

The Camel Trail: We had such a wonderful stay at Coombe Mill in Cornwall last year and one of the best days was just hiring bikes and peddling down this well-known route. Finished off by a pint and fish and chips. This trip illustrates perfectly that it’s sometimes the simple things in life – exploring our own backyards, that can be just as fun and rewarding.
