My Love of Farmers Markets

I really enjoy farmers markets, and living just outside of London I have tons on my doorstep. I try to eat as seasonally as possible, and shopping this way forces me to. It’s great to support small independent farms and suppliers and the goodies are always so much better quality than anything i’ll find in a supermarket. Look at what I picked up at the weekend…

All this for under £35!
Whole chicken
Slab of pork belly
Pack of bacon
8 chicken carcasses (which made 3l of stock)
Huge slab of Dorset salmon
4 apples
3 huge spears of rhubarb
3 leeks
Massive cauliflower
1kg carrots
2 bags of mixed leaf salad
6 small beetroots
6 tomatoes

That’s an impressive amount of organic/free range food don’t you think? What are your thoughts on farmers markets? I’d love to hear from you in the comments section 🙂

I love farmers’ markets, and eating fresh seasonal food, while supporting local, although do find that they are sometimes a bit pricey – you have got a great haul for your budget though! #AllAboutYou

Great haul there! I love farmer’s markets, especially the cheese and bread stalls (being veggie I have to stride quickly past the meat but my boys love the fresh hot sausages they often sell!).

Blimey really?? I going to have to go to farmers markets!

We are so lucky to have this market every Sunday and another one every Saturday just a short train ride away. Between them, my Riverford veg box and new delivering butcher, money spent in supermarkets should become minimal xx

They’ve come a long way since the days of over priced dirty veggies. Well worth taking a look if you have one nearby 🙂

You got so much stuff! Great value for money. We should definitely shop at local markets a lot more than we tend to. x Mel#SharewithMe

I never shop at markets and I don’t actually know why but looking at what you got for your money I need to start shopping at them! #sharewithme

  20. May 14, 2014 / 8:27 am

Love the names they give cheeses and vino 😀

  21. May 14, 2014 / 8:26 am

This isn’t bulk buying – it’s buying our weekly groceries here instead of using the supermarket 🙂

  22. May 14, 2014 / 8:12 am

I would love to buy in bulk but we just don’t have the space to store everything and I can’t bear waste. Looks like a great haul too 🙂

  23. May 14, 2014 / 8:04 am

That’s quite a haul! I love farmer’s markets, we have one locally twice a month. I can’t resist the Wobbly Bottom Goats Cheese!

  24. May 14, 2014 / 7:30 am

Farmers markets are the best! WOW you really got a great overhaul of organic fresh food there! So jealous. I should go more often but since we moved I haven’t found the one in our area yet. Lazy I know. This has motivated me!!! 😉 Thank you ever so much for linking up to Share With Me #sharewithme

That’s a lot of shopping! We used to live in New Zealand and wet to a farmers market for our big good shop every week. We only ate seasonal produce and it was always so tasty. I’m glad more are springing up here as supermarket produce has usually been chilled for a while and the difference in taste is remarkable. X

  28. May 13, 2014 / 8:14 am

I’m so with you! I LOVE a good market. I get up every Sunday at 8 to go to our local market and come back with tonnes of fresh fruit and veggies. It’s awesome.
