My Love of Farmers Markets

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I really enjoy farmers markets, and living just outside of London I have tons on my doorstep. I try to eat as seasonally as possible, and shopping this way forces me to. It’s great to support small independent farms and suppliers and the goodies are always so much better quality than anything i’ll find in a supermarket. Look at what I picked up at the weekend…

All this for under ยฃ35!
Whole chicken
Slab of pork belly
Pack of bacon
8 chicken carcasses (which made 3l of stock)
Huge slab of Dorset salmon
4 apples
3 huge spears of rhubarb
3 leeks
Cucumber
Massive cauliflower
Broccoli
1kg carrots
2 bags of mixed leaf salad
Swede
6 small beetroots
6 tomatoes

That’s an impressive amount of organic/free range food don’t you think? What are your thoughts on farmers markets? I’d love to hear from you in the comments section!

  29. That’s a lot of shopping! We used to live in New Zealand and wet to a farmers market for our big good shop every week. We only ate seasonal produce and it was always so tasty. I’m glad more are springing up here as supermarket produce has usually been chilled for a while and the difference in taste is remarkable. X
