We bumped into a neighbour on Saturday morning. ‘Don’t get too close’ he exclaimed, ‘we’ve all had a nasty cold’. I was about to say something along the lines of ‘we seem to have escaped that so far,’ but stopped myself. I really didn’t want to jinx my little family at such a busy time. Unfortunately it would appear that just thinking such thoughts was enough to indeed jinx us, as baby boy came down with said nasty cold that very evening. I wrote here about our horrendous night and how hubby and I were running on empty on Sunday. It was inevitable I guess that the rest of us would start feeling unwell.
It started manifesting itself yesterday, and last night’s witching hour was particularly bad. Although 5yo’s sleep is at best pretty poor, once she’s actually in bed she’s usually so tired she just rolls over and goes straight to sleep. Yesterday evening she messed around for over two hours, and was up and down like a yoyo all night. She woke up (at the crack of dawn, obvs) with a runny nose, slight fever and saying how bad she felt. I felt rough too with a sore throat and pounding head. The boy has progressed to the delightful thick green snot stage, and 2yo wasn’t her usual cheerful self
I’m a huge believer in staying in the warm at the beginning of an illness in the hope that it stops it from developing too much. It’s also in my best interest to ensure everybody is as well as possible in time for my work week, so I declared that today would be PJ day, and tried to be as positive about it as I could muster. Reading this gorgeous post over at Pouting in Heels really helped!
We had Christmas music, watched Madagascar and Mickey’s Christmas Carol, played with Lego and play dough, looked through baby record books, made cards and ate tons of food (feed a fever and all that). We also had a few strops and moodiness but overall the kids were lovely, and it was really good for me to press the pause button for once. Baby boy had a three hour nap, so it will be interesting to see if that helps our sleep situation tonight (fingers crossed!)
Also two really awesome things happened today. I featured on Honest Mum’s fabulous site under her Wonderful Women series. Click here for a read of my interview. I also received my shipment of books (see photo above), and holding the book in my hand was pretty damn special I have to say.
All in all a much better day than I was expecting to have! We even managed an easy and pleasant witching hour, which never happens. Both girls were asleep and baby was feeding by 6:30pm. Please send happy thoughts our way, and wish us a good night and germ free tomorrow!
