Meeting a Newbie

I wrote recently about a friend who was in the early stages of labour. Well she had the baby four days after my post – a beautiful little girl (pictured above). She came into the world totally adored by her family, including two and half year old big brother. Her mummy was chuffed to bits as she secretly wanted a girl, and it’s always nice to get what you want in these situations isn’t it.

My 21mo’s nursery was closed for an inset day on Friday, and hubby was working from home so could cover childcare after school for 4yo. It was the perfect opportunity to go and meet the new arrival, and see my friend who I’d not seen since the summer. She lives an almost two hour train trip away, which can be disastrous with a toddler in tow. Thankfully lady luck was on our side and it was completely fine. My lovely obliging girl slept almost the entire way there and I got to catch up with my blog reading. Win win!

My friend is doing great, you’d never know she had given birth two weeks previously and been up since 2am. Even though new mums always feel like crap in those early days it’s nice to be told you are looking great, and it wasn’t even stretching the truth. We treated ourselves to a yummy pub lunch – the big kids played, the baby fed and the mummies ate way too much. Then we headed back to the train station. It was a good half an hour walk, but the sun was shining by then and it was a glorious stroll. Also fab to have a proper gossip sesh without being interrupted by the needs and wants of three kids as they were all safely snuggled up in their buggies.

The train journey back was a lot less subdued, with 21mo needing constant attention but still being such a good girl. I really can’t complain. I have been ‘that’ woman with ‘those’ kids so many times before, but fortunately not on this particular day.

  8. Oh I miss newborns! Haven’t had a newborn snuggle since L mysteriously stopped being one. I wish she had warned me it would be over so quick I do no regret letting her sleep or snuggle on me.

Well done on all the train journeys. I have taken L on the train a few times. The last of which I was the mum with the screaming infant and no time to get her out and snuggle her.

I also wanted to say how much I love your blog design with the animals. Super cute.
