It’s all about me

Sara over at Mum Turned Mom has tagged me for a little meme. I know they aren’t for everyone, but I’m really enjoying reading these factual posts. Makes me feel like I’m getting to know the folk behind the blogs a bit better. I also inevitably add a few books to my reading list. So here goes, a few facts about moi.

1. Tell us your name and what you do…
My name is Mummy Tries, which I chose because I’m constantly trying to do the best by my family. I don’t always get it right, but I am always open to suggestion when things are less than perfect, and try my damnedest to find a better solution. I decided to blog anonymously so I could be completely uninhibited with what I was saying. Sometimes I wonder if it’s a bit cowardly but it’s working for now and if it ain’t broke and all that.

I also have a part time job. I’m a PA two days a week in London for a big firm in the city. I love my job – the people I work with are great and I enjoy having a little bit of separation time from my kids. Two days is enough for me though, it’s a very long 48 hours starting with an alarm going off at 5:30.

2. I live at home with…
My amazing long suffering hubby and our two beautiful girls who are four and 20 months old. Also have a blue bubs who is due to join us in February.

3. My favourite thing to do is…
Cook. I absolutely love being in my kitchen creating food. If only I could find a way of earning a living doing so.

4. My favourite thing to eat is…
Asian food. I could eat sushi and sashimi every single day. I’m also very partial to unagi don, tempura, ramen, tom yum, pad Thai, nasi goreng, Goan korma, rogan josh. The list could go on but i’m making my mouth water and my stomach rumble.

5. When I get cross I…
Get angry and upset, have a blowout then try and forget all about it. Life’s too short to hold on to resentment.

6. Sometimes I worry because…
Of the state of the world our kids will grow up in. I imagine every generation had similar thoughts, but I also think the world is a very different place to the one I grew up in. I think it’s going to be much harder for them to achieve, and I’m not too sure that the same kind of opportunities I had will present themselves. It makes me even more determined to ensure they grow up to be adaptable, balanced and well rounded as I think it will help them greatly in life.

7. My favourite book is…
Far too many to have a fave, here is a post I wrote about the books that changed my life.

8. My favourite toy is …
The only toy I own is my old battered iPhone 4, which is on it’s last legs and shall be upgraded within the next couple of months (if it makes it that long!) I do have a pretty fabulous sunglasses collection, does that count?

9. I dislike…
Refusal to change when it’s desperately needed for the greater good of all around.

10. When I grow up I want to be…
Happy. I know this sounds corny but when I’m on my deathbed I want to look back at my life and think ‘I wouldn’t change a single day’. One of my favourite song lyrics is from the wonderful Beth Orton and sums up how I feel: ‘regrets are just lessons we haven’t learnt yet’.
