Being Beautiful On The Inside

Regardless of my exterior looks, for me to feel beautiful I have to be kind to my body. First and foremost eating a clean diet of good quality natural food. In addition I take probiotic supplements to aid the production of beneficial gut flora and kill the bad stuff. I also take fermented cod liver oil, supposedly the very best omega boost on the market.

On top of all this, I walk everywhere I possibly can. Usually pushing my 2yo in a buggy with the baby strapped to me in the sling and sometimes dragging 5yo on her scooter at the same time. Don’t get me wrong, I know it’s not as much exercise as hitting the gym hard four times a week but it’s better than getting the bus.

Although a slightly odd way to spend my time sans kids, yesterday I had my first colonic irrigation in eight years.  I can thoroughly recommend them to anyone that hasn’t – especially if you’ve had babies. Colonics are a great way to give your body an internal cleanse*, and get rid of toxins from the stresses of life. They’re also a fabulous kick start to any detox programme. Admit it you’re a teeny bit intrigued now aren’t you?

The treatment was my birthday pressie from hubby this year, because today dear readers I am 35. I am no longer a spring chicken by any stretch of the imagination, but by eating well, keeping fit and clearing out the crap (quite literally) I hope my body will be beautiful on the inside for many years to come.

What’s the point in projecting beauty and youth, if your body fails you?

  1. Happy birthday lovely lady! True, we have to look after our bodies. Not sure about the colonic irrigation myself, but glad you feel better after it. Xx

  2. Happy birthday! Your approach to keeping healthy is so positive. I don’t know how you do it with three kids. Reading your blog always makes me want to try harder with my own health. X

  3. Happy birthday! That is one interesting birthday gift request, but I’m glad you enjoyed it. Tbh, the thought of it freaks me out but I like the thought of being cleaned out. 🙂

  4. I’ve had a couple of colonics in my lifetime and can thoroughly recommend them – although I haven’t had one for some years now (will to look into that). I think that running around after 3 kids is far better than a gym work-out. My Mum ran around after 7 and she never put on any weight! Thank you for linking to PoCoLo 🙂 x

  5. Happy birthday! I turn 36 next week – definitely not old yet… I’m well overdue for a bit of a detox, and intrigued by colonic irrigation – I have a gorgeous inside and out friend who swears by them so maybe I should give it a go! Xx

  6. Happy birthday lovely! Hope you had a wonderful day x And, as someone who turned 40 last year, 35 is not old 🙂 I find that the healthier I feel the more confident I am in how I look; how you feel inside is absolutely the most important thing. Your commitment is amazing. Thanks so much for linking to #ThePrompt x

  7. Well first of all, happy birthday lovely! Hope you had a fab day and glad you got a bit of you time…. I have to admit that I haven’t ever really thought about having a colonic irrigation and I am not sure I am brave enough to try it! Really glad it works for you though 🙂 xx #wotw

  8. Happy birthday! This 37 year old feels that 35 is not old. Absolutely, it’s so important to look after yourself from the inside – I bet your skin glows beautifully. #theprompt x

  9. Happy Birthday! I have 2 years on you, so 35 is not old! Beauty is definitely about feeling beautiful and looking after yourself. Hope you have a lovely day x Thanks for sharing with #WotW

  10. A belated happy birthday lovely! 🙂
    I wish I was still 35!
Loved your post but colonic irrigation?
    Er, no.
“ain’t nobody got time for that!”
As her on Russell Howard’s show says lol
My buttocks are clenched at the thoughts of it. 😀 x

  11. Happy birthday! I turned 35 earlier this year too – sounds like you are better at looking after yourself than I am though! Walking is great exercise though and I do try and get out and about as much as possible. Hope you had a lovely birthday 🙂

  12. Happy birthday..:)

Can’t agree more.. There is nothing more beautiful than a beautiful heart and healthy body. Unfortunately, “beauty” needs to be redefined, unlearned and re-learned for many people around us…

  14. Happy Birthday for yesterday hon! (sorry I was a bit rubbish on the commenting front yesterday!).Sounds like you are in control of everything and really giving your body some proper maintenance! X

  15. Happy birthday! Hope you have a lovely day! Walking pushing a buggy and dragging kids is VERY good exercise. I’m so impressed by your commitment to your diet too. I was very careful with what I ate for years, but have really eased off in the last year or so – and I can’t say I feel better for it 🙁

  16. Happy Birthday! And 35 is very young… please say it is – I’m 36! Sounds like you are taking care of yourself very well – walking with a buggy and a baby in a sling is hard work. I did a hike with my 17mo in a back pack today and am now shattered! Hope you’re having a great day. xxx
